Type 2 Diabetes during pregnancy.?
Posted by admin on Oct 12, 2009
I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes with my previous pregnancy and it never went away so I now have type 2 diabetes. I am 11 weeks pregnant now and am a little worried about what effect this is going to have on this baby. A midwife I spoke to said that type 2 can turn into type 1 during pregnancy, it sounds a bit unreal but if anyone has got type 2 diabetes and pregnant, please let me know what you are doing to control your sugars etc. Thanks
Type two diabetes does not turn into type one diabetes. Perhaps she means that you will need insulin. Just because you need insulin doesn’t mean you are a type one diabetic. Type one diabetes and type two diabetes are entirely different diseases with entirely different causes and mechanisms. Ask your endocrinologist for more information and education.
Anyone who had GD during a pregnancy, did you develop it again during subsequent pregnancies?
Posted by admin on Oct 9, 2009
This only applies to women who had Gestational Diabetes during their first pregnancy, and have had more children as well.
Just curious, I know my chances are abnormally high and I plan to start watching my diet right away, but just curious if anyone did have it once and not the next time. ![]()
Thanks!
I had it with my first child and not my second. I am GD free with my son, but not with my daughter.

What is the process of the gestational diabetes screening during pregnancy?
Posted by admin on Oct 3, 2009
I have a question regarding the procedure of the diabetes screening, what its all about.
My doctor told me to drink a glucose drink one hour before my appoinment, then she said she will do some screening… but i kinda confused about the process of this screening itself. As i understand they will take some blood sample and check the level of sugar in my blood? So blood is taken from the vein or from the finger? And i have an appoinment in the evening, does it mean i should not eat before that? Or my appoinment has to be in the morning only?
What happens if they come to know that level of sugar in the blood is higher than normal?
Thank you in advance for all the answers.
Thank you for the answers, i guess there was some confusion about the screening process as my doctor didnt tell much about it at all, even for what kind of diabetes they are going to check my blood. I came to know about the details from the internet already. So most probably, i’ll take a leave from the office and go there just in the morning.
I am 37wks. preg and was just diagnoised with Gestational Diabetes at about 33 wks.
All they are going to do is draw blood and send it off to the lab. if your sugar levels are high, they will schedule you for a 3 hr. glucose test where you will have to fast you will not be able to eat anything after 12 a.m. When they draw your blood this time it will be every hr for 3 hrs.
You may not have anything to worry about. The test is mandatory, a word of advice is to not eat anything sweet at all before you take the test because it can cause your results to come back negative and you dont want to take the 3hr. test for nothing
