Did anyone have preclampsia during pregnancy?

Posted by admin on Sep 3, 2009

Some symptom did you have and bad did it get?

I had a mild case – I was on total rest the last month or so of my pregnancies (2). It can be a very dangerous condition as the person who already answered said. Talk to your doctor about any concerns you have. Also check out the link below.

In addition to swelling, protein in the urine, and high blood pressure, symptoms of preeclampsia can include:
Rapid weight gain caused by a significant increase in bodily fluid
Abdominal pain
Severe headaches
A change in reflexes
Reduced output of urine or no urine
Blood in the urine
Dizziness
Excessive vomiting and nausea

I had a severe case. My blood pressure was dangerously high and I was put on bedrest at 28 weeks. I was retaining so much water that it felt like I had rubberbands wrapped around my ankles. After I did deliver my baby all I did was pee and pee and pee to get rid of the excess water. I, too, had to have an emergency c-section at 32 weeks or my baby’s health could have been really jeopardized. She was 4lbs. 7oz. She’s fine today, at 11 months, but a little bit behind developmentally. I’m not worried though as she’s in therapy and has the most heartwarming smile!

I had preaclampsia with my second child. They told me it was a mild case. I swelled extremely bad. Gained like 7 lbs in one week. And it was all water weight. My doctor ended up putting me on strict bed rest for the last 4-6 weeks of my pregnancy. He told me to only get up to go to the bathroom. I was supposed to have someone bring me my food, drinks, everything. That sounds nice, but it got old really fast. Just do what your doctor says, and I think you can keep it under control.
