Could I have preeclampsia?

Posted by admin on Sep 12, 2009

First off I do have a dr appt tomorrow! I’m just feelin panicked! I’m 23 weeks pregnant and lately I have been gettin alot of headaches off and on! They are very mild headaches and usually go away pretty quickly when I forget about them or get busy! yesterday I was at work bent over cleanin a drain and I kinda of saw stars and the other day when I was walkin I had it happen to! I went to the ER just last Friday cause of braxton Hick contractions but my blood pressure was normal! They did check for a UTI but nothing! Do you think they checked for protein too? I’m just worried that I might be developing preclampsia! It’s my fourth pregnancy no previous cases of high blood pressure or preeclampsia! So do u think I’m just havin random pregnancy symptoms or could it be the onset of preeclampsia? oh and my nose is stuffy alot too…. Please help?
oh and by the way I’m a big time hypochondriac! If I think I have something my symptoms get worse and worse! This week I have been stressing alot about my braxton Hicks contractions and what not! So this whole headache thing started just like 2 days ago….. and I also feel like a lump in my throat when I swallow! It’s like I have built up mucus but I don’t ever cough or cough anything out…..
yes it’s been very hot ;-( i live in cali! and I work at a gas station so I have to stand for 8 hours a day everyday! and we are not given breaks at all! we just eat when we have time! So that stresses me too! I have a 5 and 6 yr old and my babies dad and I had split early on in my pregnancy ;-( So maybe everything is just way too much!!

You might just be dehydrated. Just try and relax until tomorrow!

Headaches are pretty normal, if it is from high blood pressure then they would be directly above your eyes (like in your eye brow area). I have gestational hypertension and I get headaches but I know when they are from being too tired or doing too much in one day.

The spots could have been from being bent over for too long. If its from preeclampsia of high blood pressure then you usually get them while sitting or lying down,

Stuffy nose is normal during pregnancy, it’s just another one of this things we have to deal with.

Bring everything up with your doctor but I would not worry too much.

If your blood pressure is not high then you have nothing to worry about. and yes when you went to the ER and they took a urine sample, im sure they checked for protein in your urine, it is pretty routine. Im also a HUGE hypochodriac and suffer from anxiety.. so i know how you feel… seeing stars could just be from not eating enough or not drinking enough, ive had that happen to me before as well… but just hang in there till tommorw, i know its easier said then done!! but if your really nervous call up the drs office to help ease some of the fears! good luck sweetie!

Has it been really hot in your area lately?? I’m 24 weeks and have been having a few headaches here and there due to the heat being above 90 degrees. Also, because of all of the things going on in our bodies right now, dizziness can be a very normal symptom. I think if the docs at the ER said your blood pressure was fine then its not preeclampsia. I had to be induced due to preeclampsia 5 weeks early. But they had been monitoring me for a while. Just stay hydrated, relax regularly, don’t sit or stand in one place for too long, don’t ever get up too quickly, and try not to stress too much (which it sounds like you’re having a hard time doing!) Bring it up at your next appointment so they can reassure you, but I’m sure its all normal.

As for your addtional info, it is against the law for any employer (unless you are self employed) to deny you a break. Especially if you are pregnant. They could get into a lot of trouble for that. I would try to get some breaks in. I’m only allowed 2, 15 min. breaks in a 8 hour period, but it definitely helps. If it is just impossible, just try to alter your positions every once and a while to keep your blood flowing, wear comfortable clothes, nothing restricting…and maybe see if they’ll let you put a fan on.

That sounds more like gestational diabetes. I had pre-eclampsia with my first and gestational diabetes with my second and third… Mild headaches could be from lack of or too much sugar in your system. They can and usually test around week 24 for G.D. but eating alot of carbs or starches, or just plain sugar can spike your sugar levels.

There’s not much to TRULY worry about if that’s the case. You’ll just have to watch what you eat slightly and realize you might go alittle early or just have a big baby… My last baby was induced 3 weeks early and weighed 8lbs. She was healthy and I had no real problems. I’d dicuss those things with your dr, but I don’t see signs of pre-eclampsia.
