I have reactive …
I have reactive hypoglycemia. Yesterday, I made a rice pudding with raisins, sugar, ginger, cloves, coconut milk. I tried a portion, and on the next day I felt dizzy, depressed, feeling of crying, and kind of out of it. That is a hypoglycemic reaction to the refined sugar and raisins.

I agree! My low …
I agree! My low carb diet is the only thing that can rid me of hypoglycemia. At first , the first couple of days on my low carb diet I had a lot of symptoms and reactions, but after 3-4 days it was better. I gradually eliminate most carbs and sugar even fruits and now I eat meat and low glycemic vegetables and I have no symptoms of hypoglycemia!! :) But you must eliminate them little by little if its too hard.

If you have …
If you have Hypoglycemia but are not Diabetic then you either have Reactive Hypoglycemia or Fasting Hypoglycemia. The symptoms are very similar to what a diabetic would go through in hypoglycemic episode. but the treatment of it is different. diabetics take sugar to treat a low. But a reactive or Fasting needs to treat with carbs, fiber, and protein. They casn take sugar for a “quick fix” but must eat immdeiately. Reactives and Fastings will drop suddenly if they only use sugar to treat.

If you’re …
If you’re hypoglycemic, you should not have to take insulin. Insulin lowers your blood sugar. Glucose tablets help to raise your blood sugar and keep from a serious life-threatening drop. I have severe hypoglycemia. I use the glucose tablets when I’m have a bad drop.

Good on you for …
Good on you for rethinking the issue my friend. I post on these issues because it could actually be dangerous for someone having a hypo if the public don’t realise what to do. I understand that you were talking about long term issues though. Good luck with everything.

wasdom01:

You have completely …
You have completely misunderstood this presentation. When someone with diabetes is having a hypo, sugar is the ‘only’ thing that will help. Don’t you understand that we are not talking about ‘long term’ management here? We’re talking about potentially saving someones’ life with a quick acting carbohydrate. In these situations protein, fibre and ‘complex’ carbs would be either useless or not appropriate.

talkinghead22:

It has already been …
It has already been said here before, but eating heavy sweets is the last thing you want to do for hypoglycemia. That just delays your crash for a very brief time period. Fiber and protein take longer to break down and are much healthier.

What about people …
What about people who don’t have Type I or Type II diabetes, who don’t ever take insulin? I was just recently diagnose with hypoglycemia and instead of taking insulin I have to carry glucose tablets. It’s constant without much symptoms at all.

Orange juice & Ike …
Orange juice & Ike & Mike’s? Coke? Refined sugar for hypoglycemia isn’t a remotely beneficial source of treatment. Obviously, Nicole(and the other people interviewed) are addicted to processed sugar & are misinformed, most likely by the medical industry which still conveys that to treat low blood sugar, one should consume sugar. Small, frequent meals/snacks containing lean protein with complex carbs are essential to balance hypoglycemia.
