ummmm yes....sounds a bit extreme. Yes, my "episodes" (I hate calling them that it makes me sound like crazy person) come on quickly. Yes, I hate them. Yes, I would like to be able to foresee them....but it's easier just to keep a good diet and carry around food if I'm not going to have a kitchen available to me. Trust me it's better that way. (Though I have issues with poking myself with sharp objects....long story, though related to one of my "episodes". Let's just leave it at the blood test hurt. A lot) You'll be fine with just the diet
References :
<3 your fellow hypoglycemic (also not officially diagnosed, but pretty darn sure)

The glucometer is often free while the strips are extremely spendy. Simply by eating one can elevate blood sugars. If in crisis, can eat some life savers but keeping in mind its just a quick fix and blood sugar will bottom out again. Consuming proper nourishment is paramount in controlling blood sugars. We all feel a headache or dizzy or cold from low blood sugars and doesn't necessarily mean we are hypoglycemic. Hypoglycemia often is a precursor to diabetes so use the term carefully. Not exactly clear on how this diagnosis was determined. Be well.....
References :
http://thedietzone.net/s/hypoglycemic_diet

Not at all, while the meters are cheap the test strips are not.. Why do you think your hypoglycemia does not indicate diabetes? In certain situations it can be a presenting symptom, as a high blood sugar can cause a surge of insulin causing your blood sugar to drop below normal, especially after you eat. I was thinking more about your question if you do purchase a glucometer should should check your blood sugar when you first get up and take another test in the afternoon around 3:00 pm because if there is a real problem with your blood sugar it would also show up in these tests. I suspected there was a problem with my blood sugar and I bought a glucometor. My sugar was elevated so I went and made an appointment with a dietician and joined a gym. My next appointment with by GP I told her about this and I had my blood sugar completely under control by myself. Good luck, Donna
References :
RN CCU

it sounds frankly like the actions of a hypochondriac. Blood glucose can drop suddenly, like five minutes after you have checked, it can bottom out, no warning. So spending the kind of money it takes to use and maintain a glucose meter is pretty much pointless. Use the money you save to see a nutritionist and learn how to control your diet so you don't have to worry about your sugar levels.
References :
RN
