Bobbie (Emilee's Mom):

I found out the results at the next appointment, but if you test positive they may call you in early.

It took me a week to know the results on the gestational diabetes test. Just be patient it won’t take long. I remember drinking that stuff it was good but I thought I was going to be sick! And the blood taking was just pretty normal for me.

Be open minded:

I had mine done by an outside lab (Quest diagnostics). They told me 2-3 days if there was a problem – and at my next appointment if there was not. I found out after 7 days when I came in for my Rhogam injection that I passed.

I was told if I didn’t hear anything, then I was fine, but if it was detected that I may have gestational diabetes, they would get back to me in no more then one week after the test. I never got the call, because my tests were fine.

And I do agree, the drink made me soooo nauseous, I thought I was going to hurl right there in the blood clinic while waiting to get my blood drawn.

I got my results in a couple of days. I had the test done at our local hospital, so they didn’t have to send the blood away for lab work…they did it right there.

And if you thought the standard 1-hour test was bad, the 3-hour is even worse. I failed the first one and had to go for the 3-hour test. The first test didn’t leave me feeling too bad, but the second one, I felt like I would barf the rest of the day! Good luck!

Normally, you just find out at your next appointment. I think it varies from doctor to doctor and how far along you are though. You can always give your doctor a call in a few days and ask for the results. If you took the test at a hospital lab, you can go to their records dept. and request a copy of your lab panel and see what your results were.

I had to take the test 3 times!! The last time I had to drink the stuff sit there for like an hour and then they realized that I didn’t need to take the test after all, because I had already taken it less than 4 weeks earlier. Needless to say, the baby was like a pinball in my stomach for the rest of the day. She was kicking and moving like crazy from all the glucose.

You will find out at your next appointment but if the test proves that you have gestational diabetes then they will call you.
