Gestational diabetes test, do they give you the results same day?

Posted by admin on Nov 3, 2009

Did you get the results on the same day for you GD test, or did you have to wait?

Most generally, if the test is done in a lab setting, than the results will be sent to your doctor in a couple of days who will then have the nurse contact you. Are you referring to your one hour glucose tolerance test or did you have to go in for the 3 hour fasting glucose tolerance test? With my 4th baby, I had the one hour test and the nurse called me about 3 days later to set up arrangments to have the 3 hour test done since my 1 hour test was elevated. My 3 hour test results came back in a couple days and I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, which 3-5% of pregnant women develop. I did not get same day test results, but I suppose it is possible if your doctor had specific concerns and put a rush on the testing process.

You have to wait, you usually find out at your next dr’s appt.

My doctor told me that they would call the same day but only if I had it, they didn’t call so I guess I don’t have it
I’m sure they will call if you do, ask them at your next appointment and find out for sure
or you can call them

The nurse told me while I was sitting there (in the lab) trying to stop crying lol before I even saw my doctor. Good luck!!

I was crying because I hate needles…. Lol.

They will give you the results of the first GD test right then. However, if it comes back abnormal, and they do the glucose tolerance test, no. It takes a few days for them to get the results and they will call you to let you know. I hate those tests! The syrup stuff is terrible!!

It probably depends on how the lab works. Where I had my test done they had to send the results away..I had my test last Tues and my doctor appt right after. He said he would have the results in a couple days and if they were abnormal he would contact me right away..if normal we would talk about it at my next appt. I didn’t get a call last week so I’m assuming it was normal :)
