Any of you fail the first Gestational Diabetes test but pass the second?
Posted by admin on Aug 31, 2009
So I’m 29 weeks and was informed that I failed my first Gestational Diabetes test (the one where you don’t have to fast). My level was 139. Now I have to do the 3 hour test and I was just wondering if there was anyone who failed the first test but passed the second? And what were your levels, if you remember?
Thanks so much!
Yes, I failed the first test with a result in the 170s and I passed the second test.

You can all stop the thumbs down now- thank you!
Sorry-
ETA-
you didn’t pass the 1st (sorry- can’t read!)
PREGNANCY BRAIN OVER HERE!
Lots of women will pass the 2nd test. I believe it is more thorough in analyzing your glucose levels.
All my best!

Well i failed my first and just failed my second.
Dont worry about it, if you do fail, its not that bad, just need to eat low gi and low suger foods. And low fat is recomended as the less fat the easier it is for your body to create insulan.
Do a little bit of exercise which helps regulate your suger levels. I know this isnt your question, but dont stress if you do have it its not that bad.

I failed both
but alot of women that I have talked to told me they passed the second with no problems. I guess to fail the first, and pass the second is quite common. Good Luck!

i did with my son, i think my level was like in the 150′s or higher then i took the three hour fasting test and i passed, i was borderline so i still had to watch my carbs but i did pass. 139 is not bad actually, 140 is the cut off so your borderline and you werent even fasting so with your fasting test you’ll probably be neg.

Yes I failed the first test but passed the second! I dont know my levels but my nurse (her name is Fudge) just laughed at me and told me to quit eating donuts before tests!
She is funny!
Don’t stress too much! 139 actually isnt that high, my first one was like 165! I dont remember my levels that were fine though. Sorry.

Yes and as I understand it that’s exactly why the do two tests. Good luck with the second!

139 is in normal range for the first test…maybe they are just taking precautions based on other factors. I was at 160ish with my first test and failed the 3 hours test terribly..twice!

Yes, with my son nine years ago I failed the first (one hour), the second (three hour), and passed the third (five hour).
With my daughter in 2001 I failed the first one, and passed the three hour.
I don’t remember any of my levels, just that the first 3-hour was borderline which they did not tell me until AFTER I took the five hour and I was not too happy about that.
I just took my one-hour for my third baby, but if I fail it (I’m SURE I will) I am not doing the longer test. Course they tell me they don’t even do the five hour anymore. Good thing.
Anyway the one hour is a glucose tolerance screen, and the parameters are much slimmer, as it is designed as a diagnostic to identify those who *may* be more at risk. The three-hour actual glucose tolerance test is the definitive test.
Good luck to you & congrats!
