Has anyone else had gestational diabetes and controled it through diet?

I had it 6 years ago and was able to cut out bread, sugar/sweets, potatoes.
I have it again and need help with finding what I can eat. Any good websites or books that you know about? Experiences to share?

Hi – I had it with my recent pregnancy. The first thing I cut out was sweets. Then I stayed away from high carb foods like pasta and breads. I still ate fruit and whole wheat products. The best bet for me was to eat continuously throughout the day. Every two-three hours I was eating something. It kept my blood sugar constant.

Good luck!

I had it with my last baby…its hell…he he…for me it really was…I love my carbs…..the good thing is though now they make a lot of foods for people with high sugar…you can get sugar-free syrup from Smuckers…and sugar-free cookies and things like that….I ate a lot of meat and fruits….I drank a lot of Diet Rite! Good luck…its hard!

I received a diet from my doctor. I ate 3 meals a day and 3 snacks a day. I mantained my weight but I didn’t really cut out anything except for the chocolate chip cookies I craved everyday when I was pregnant. I also had to give myself insulin shots because apparently everyone at my doctors office forgot to read the test results until I was hopitalized twice and one of the doctors at the practice went through my file.

I had gestational diabetes with both my boys. I did something similar to you low carbs and , vegges, salads, meats, eggs, diet soda’s and tea with splenda. For my sweets I ate splenda Ice cream bars. They have many web sites if you type in gestational diabetes and diet/recipes.The South beach diet is a good cook book to go by too. Hoped this helped. Here if you need some Ideas just email me.
