Gestational Diabetes?

Posted by admin on Oct 24, 2009

I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The doctor put me on a strict diabetes diet and I have to test my blood sugar 4 times a day. Does anyone know of any foods that will keep me full but still follow the diabetes diet? This diet is leaving me starving for most of the day. Im 29weeks and 5 days. Please help.

hi hun although i am not a dr but i have this as well, and i,m 33 weeks pregnant and they hadme on that same diet with my first son who came out at 4lbs and 7 ounces and i told the same dr he was full of shittt and i absolutly will not go on a diet with this one! they didn’t have this

Evonne:

Hello! I have GD too and it was kinda hard in the beginning. I generally eat an english muffin with one tbsp of peanut butter or two pieces of whole grain toast with one tbsp of peanut butter in the morning. For my morning snack I have a 100 calorie pack (they count as one carb) and one ounce of cheese (I like one string cheese or one babybel cheese, etc). For lunch I can have a taco salad from anywhere, a chipotle burrito (rice, black beans, steak or chicken, mild salsa, sour cream, and cheese) or the burriot bowl with the same stuff and a half a bag of the lime chips. You can also have a chef salad or a med salad or for a while I was hooked on creamy tomato soup (made with milk, two cups) and a turkey sandwich made with two slices of whole grain bread, two tbsp of miracle whip, two ounces of turkey and one ounce of sliced cheese. For afternoon snack I would do the 100 caloried pack and cheese again or a cup of sugar free pudding, or a slice of whole wheat bread with cheese. For dinner I could have anything listed above or lasagna (4"x3" slice REALLY filled me up). Chicken or steak and potatoe or rice and veggies, etc. Usually it’s 3 ounces of protein, 4 carb counts (60g total), 2 fats (sour cream, butter, etc) for lunch and dinner. One ounce of protein and two carb counts for breakfast. One carb count and one protein for each snack. I have breakfast at 8am, snack at 10am, lunch at 12pm, snack at 3pm, dinner at 6pm, and last snack at 8:30pm. Hope some of this helps!!!

Good luck! Don’t get discouraged! Try not to eat dairy before lunch (it can spike your blood sugar) and if your fasting blood sugars are a little high then try to add one more ounce of protein to your snack at night.
