28 weeks pregnant and brown spotting/discharge normal?
Posted by admin on Nov 6, 2009
I’m 28 weeks pregnant and my discharge the last 2 days has been a little more brown. It’s not very heavy. Is this normal?
i haven’t had sex in weeks as I had a cerclage placed at 21 weeks. I don’t have any other sympotoms and the amount is not a lot/
Brown discharge usually indicates "old" blood… like blood that you’ve produced in the last couple of days that is just now being expelled.
Have you had sex within, like, the last 3 days? That’s usually the number one cause of spotting. It’s cervical bleeding, from your cervix being over-sensitive and filled with extra blood-vessels from pregnancy, and can bleed due to friction or constant touching (like from sexual activity) and there is no harm to you or the baby.
The other cause of bleeding is placental. This is where the actual placenta bleeds (for various reasons) and there is a 1 in 3 chance of miscarriage with placental bleeding.
I wouldn’t worry too much – unless you’re bleeding enough to soak two maxi pads (a general rule of my doctor), then it shouldn’t be any cause for concern (yeah right, right??
).
Just go to your doctor and get checked out if you’re really freaked out. But I’d say, at 28 weeks, you’ll know if you’re miscarrying .. I’m also 7 months and your baby should weigh about 2 lbs and be about 14 inches long. If you were to expell that, you’d notice!
Good luck, sweetie… just remember to take care of yourself!
Didn’t happen to me…but I can’t be sure so call your doctor.

It could be that your starting to lose your mucus plug, or it could be also, if you have had sex then that could have irritated something up there. My best answer is starting to lose your mucus plug gradually. Though I had an exam last week and I bled a little afterwards.. Im 36 weeks pregnant now.. good luck!!

Not normal. Make an appt. for your OB. You could be something as simple as your mucous plug or something way more dangerous. Be safe and get it checked.

I freaked out when that happened too. I started bleeding a little after my 36 week exam (to see if my cervix was dialated). Anything that irritates the area could make it bleed a little. If it was darker or actually red, then I would be worried but since its just a little brown, I wouldn’t worry. Hopefully it just clears up in a few days. For now, just wear some pantyliners if you’re not already.
